Withdrawing from the Pain

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:18 NIV

Pain is inevitable and we all experience pain at various points in our lives. Sometimes pain can be mild or the worst thing we can imagine. We may experience emotional, physical, or mental pain and we are affected by pain in differing ways depending on the season in our lives. The one thing we never want to do intentionally is withdraw from the pain when it is mentally or emotionally occurring. It is easy to just want to bury the pain in our efforts to make it stop or just simply go away. However, the more we withdraw the deeper the pain becomes. We must deal with it both spiritually and mentally. We would never shy away from medicating ourselves if we had a headache or pain in our physical bodies. We pay constant attention to physical pain until we have physically medicated ourselves with over-the-counter medications and until the pain is gone. The same should occur with emotional or mental pain. We should stay alert and deal with the pain in a healthy manner until we have conquered the pain. Withdrawing as if it is not there only makes things worse. Stay alert, pray, seek His face, seek professional help if needed because Our Heavenly Father rescues those who are crushed in spirit.
