Compulsive Planning

Updated: Feb 20, 2021

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21

I am by nature a planner or at least I need to know the next steps before moving. How many of you are compulsive planners? The people who do not plan and just do things on an impulse drive “us crazy!” They get under our skin because we view the non-planners as irresponsible. They are fun-loving and are not sure why everything needs to be planned and thought about before doing. They want to know “what’s the big deal? Just do what you want.” Many of you are thinking, I am one of those persons who wants to just have fun and many others of you are saying “I live with one of those people who always want to live on an impulse and they get on my nerves.” Well, while I don’t exactly agree with doing things without a thought or at least some plans, I believe that both of the people described here are on opposite ends of the process and neither are justified. Prayer must be used for both people. Many times, we as planners plan things out that are actually outside of God’s will and is not something He has planned for us at all. We forget that we plan a lot of activities that are well meaning and seems the right thing to do, but without consulting with our Father, we shouldn’t be planning without praying first. The same is true for our impulsive decision makers. Both should PRAY FIRST before planning or being impulsive!
