Are YOU a Talebearer?

The definition of talebearer according to Webster is a person who spreads gossip or rumors. This simply means we talk too much about others and their affairs. Sometimes it is easier just to mind our own business than to gossip about the lives of others. It really isn’t that difficult to close our mouths when we remember how our Heavenly Father provides grace for us daily regarding our own raggedy lives. We just need to remember that we are not perfect, and neither are those we encounter. Engage in prayer daily for those you will meet before you leave home each day, so that when you meet them you are already prepared to be kind and not spread information that is not for us to tell. My mother used to say “mind your own business and when you do you won’t have time to mind other people’s business.” What I am most grateful for is that God has given me a heart that is uncomfortable with being a talebearer. He convicts those whom He has called as His own. Let us not gossip but hold all secrets entrusted to us in love.

A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret. Proverbs 11:13
